RACERS ARRIVE
SPEEDSTERS FROM SOUTH WESTERN SPRINGS MEETING Four of Wellington’s fastest ,J cinder shifters'’ arrived in Auckland by the Limited this morning to take part in a challenge match with local riders at the opening of the Western Springs Stadium this evening. They are Messrs. McKenzie, Naylor, Harvie and McGhee. The Auckland team will probably be chosen from the following riders, who have shown considerable promise during training operations this week: Messrs. W. Herbert, C. Goodwin. W. Allen, W. Mattson, A. Lemon, C. Goldberg, L. Coulthard and T. Bell. Another feature of tonight’s programme will be a match race between Sid Perkins and A. Mann, two Australian stars. Final practices last evening under the electric lights showed that there are some very fast riders in Auckland. and hinted at broken Dominion records shortly. W. Herbert, the grass track speedster who has had experience during the last season on the cinders in Australia, lapped at a speed considerably under the New Zealand record, put up in Wellington. A grand parade of riders will be held at 7.45 p.m., and at 8 o’clock the Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon. will declare the ground open. Eighteen events will be decided during the evening. Loud speakers have been installed and will keep the spectators fully informed.
