TE AROHA TOPICS

SIR RUSSELL’S INJURY ANTIQUE MAKES GOOD From Our Own Correspondent TE AROHA, Friday. Although Te Aroha cannot boast the possession of prominent Cup candidates, it is starting the season well with its hurdlers. The Lamb and Archeen being the latest to score over the timber. Archeen’s win at Te Kuiti was rather a surprise to local sportsmen, as the Marble Arch representative had not been set to do much schooling work. The Glen Albyn filly Glenison is speedy, as she shows in her races. As she is growing fast she cannot be expected to stay well in the meantime, and it may be autumn before she arrives at her best. Patience is to be exercised with this filly, and she should join the winning ranks in due course. The Marble Arch gelding, Grand Arch, is now showing improvement, and his second at Te Kuiti with a good finishing run gives hope of him being a payable proposition if properly placed. He appears to be all the better after his racing. Had to Be Let Up Sir Russell sustained a pricked hoof lately, and has not been worked for a few days. He was on the track this morning, but it may be next week before he is asked to gallop. Marble King has been indulged in road and hill work, with occasional visits to the course lately. Like others of the Marble Arch strain, he does weil on light tasks, and just now looks really fit to race at an early date. He will be a competitor at the Taumarunui meeting, and if he finds the track there to his liking will exhibit some galloping ability. He is still being privately trained. It is not often that horses here show such a quick response to active work as the Tonbridge gelding, Antique. A few weeks ago he was quite on the big side, and even after he ran at Cambridge on Labour Day it was considered it would be some months before lie could be raced into the -money. At Te Rapa he dead-heated with Te Hoia, and now looks in racing trim. For a long time J. H. Wallace was very patient with him, and this treatment appears to have been justified. The biggest horse in training here is Te Apurangi, by Archiestown —Elnona. He is nearly 17 hands high and big in proportion. His action on the track is not at all unwieldy, while he musters up a nice turn of speed. He will be carrying the colours early in the New Year, by which time G. A. Reid will have him ready to race. *
