BUS COMPANY FINED
OVERLOADED VEHICLE (From Our Own Correspondent) HAMILTON, Today. Recently the local 7_>us company, Buses, Ltd., was before the court for operating a bus over the HamiltonCambridge Road with a load exceeding six tons. Today the company was charged with operating a bus over a fourth-class road, the load limit being four tons.. Mr. F. A. S war brick, for the local authority, said that when the bus was stopped on the way to the Cambridge talkies, it was found that there were 26 passengers aboard and the driver. Mr. L. Tompkins, for the company, contended that great confusion existed as' to the true classification of this road. Only a small section was classified to carry four tons. Inflicting a fine of £4 and costs, the magistrate said that the onus was on bus proprietors to ascertain the classification. The driver, in this case, took more passengers than he promised the inspector, showing a lack of respect.
