NIAGARA AT SUVA
SIR H. MATTHEWS TALKS ON AFFORESTATION INCREASED ATTENTION Reed. 10 a.m. SUVA, Today. Aboard the Niagara, which arrived tills morning, is Sir Herbert Matthews, trustee for the debenture holders in London in New Zealand Perpetual Forests. He is on an inspection visit. The company, lie said, was making excellent progress, planting 25,000 acres annually. He found afforestation attracting increasing attention in Canada, and there was also a growing opinion in the United States in favour of afforestation. The waste of timbers in both countries was excessive. Mr, J. L. Keep, another passenger, after nine months in Europe, expects much business dislocation in the next two years, but then an improvement. Commissioner Maxwell, of the Saltation Army, is also aboard.
