NEW COMMISSIONER
TRADE OFFICER FOR LIKELY From Our Resident Reporter WELLINGTON, Thursday. The appointment of Trade Commissioners to represent New Zealand abroad is likely in the near future. This refers particularly to the appointment of an officer for Canada, it is believed. The question of extending New Zealand’s markets abroad has at various times engaged the attention of successive Governments of New Zealand, and iu 1924, when the late Mr. Massey was Prime Minister, a clause was embodied iu the Finance Act. providing that the Governor-General-in-Council “may from time to time appoint a person to be commissioner for New Zealand in Canada and the United States of America, who shall hold office during the pleasure of the Governor-General." The Government has had under consideration the question of trade representation abroad, and It is likely that after the next meeting of Cabinet a definite announcement will be made with reference to an appointment to Canada.
