ANGLICAN MISSIONS
CHURCH’S APPEAL FOR SUPPORT FESTIVAL AT ST. MARK’S An eloquent appeal to supporters of the Church to help to undertake mission work was made by Archdeacon Mac Murray, speaking’ at the annual mission festival of the Auckland Diocese, in St. Mark’s Church, Remuera, last evening. The service was largely attended. Archbishop Averill figuring among the clergy present. The development of mission work was traced by Archdeacon Mac Murray, who said that he had noted a marked spiritual improvement during extensive travels in many countries. Much more earnestness toward mission service was apparent in New Zealand now compared with 50 years ago. There was, however, much room for improvement, and, although the Church had power to carry out its task, it seemed to lack the will to do so. Archdeacon Mac Murray confessed to a feeling of disappointment to find that the only religious building in the city of Nazareth was a Maliommedan mosque. ITe viewed the future in an optimistic light, expressing his belief that the Church would rise to meet the increased burdens which circumstances were conspiring to throw upon it.
During the service lessons were read by Canons Fancourt and Young, and special prayers for Church missions were offered up by Archdeacon Mac Murray.
