Obituary
MR. JAMES CLEGHORN
The death is announced from Dunedin of Mr. James Cleghorn. aged 76, formerly manager of the Glendermid Tannery. At the time of the Great War he organised the commandeering of hides on behalf of the Government. —P.A.
MR. JOHN DAWSON
Mr. John Dawson, who died yesterday at his home in St. Andrew’s Road. Epsom, at the age of 69, was born in Kirkstall, Yorkshire, and was educated at Rugby School. In 1886 Mr. Dawson came to New Zealand with his wife and two children, and settled in the Epsom district, where he lived until his death.
Mining at Thames, Coromandel, and Ohinemuri was of interest to Mr. Dawson, and he was on the board of directors of a number of companies. He was also interested in church work, being a member of the Church of England Diocesan Synod, and the Standing Committee, as well as serving on the vestry of St. Andrew’s, Epsom. He was a founder of the Eden and Epsom Tennis Club, and founded the Pacific Club.
Mr. Dawson is survived by his wife, one son, Mr. John Dawson, of Epsom, and three daughters—Mrs. J. Lindsay, of Belfast. Ireland; Mrs. J. Butterworth, of Bombay, Auckland; and Mrs. R. Eccles, of Auckland.
