THANKSGIVING DAY
GOLDEN COAST CELEBRATES U;S. HOLIDAY CREW’S DAY OFF Today is Thanksgiving Day in the United States of America and it is being properly observed on the American cargo steamer Golden Coast at present berthed at Central Wharf. It is one of America’s national holidays and was first celebrated in 1621 by the Pilgrim Fathers as a thanksgiving for their first harvest after landing in America. The practice of setting apart one day to be observed annually as a national harvest festival soon became general. It is fixed as the last Thursday in November. This morning a thanksgiving service was held on board the Golden Coast, and the crew, with the exception of the minimum number required to keep steam up for the winches, was given a holiday.
