NEGLECT RESENTED
MT. ALBERT AND HIGHWAYS BOARD
CONTRIBUTION TO ROAD “It seems to me that we are being treated with contempt by the Highways Board and the Government,” declared Cr. W. D. Fulton at last evening’s meeting of the Mount Albert Borough Council, when advice was received from the board announcing that no contribution could be made toward the maintenance of the Mount Albert borough section of the Mount Albert - Epsom Roac'. It was pointed out that the Mount Roskill half of this route had been declared a main highway, and yet had done nothing toward its improvement, whereas Mount Albert had laid down its portion in permanent materials. The council decided to make representations to the Auckland members of Parliament on the subject. Permits for the erection of 12 dwellings, valued at £10,750, were issued during the past three weeks. The fire superintendent’s report indicated that the alterations and extensions to the fire alarm system would be completed by the Post and Telegraph Department in a few days. A half-holiday on full pay is to be allowed returned soldiers on the staff to enable them to attend the opening ceremony of the War Memorial Museum on Thursday.
