MANUREWA TOWN BOARD
Mr. C. A. Faivcett reported at last evening’s meeting of the Manurewa Town Board that he had interviewed Mr. McFarlane. of the Main Highways Board relative to statements made regarding the bitumen shotilders on the great South Road not being up to specifications., Mr. McFarlane had said that the shoulders in places were not up to the level of the concrete, and in one place the metal was not two inches deep. Regarding the temperature of the bitumen used on the worl>. Air. McFarlane had said* the temperature had been tested on several occasions, and found correct, but it was at present showing signs of perishing, as if it might have been overheated. After some argument he had agreed that it might have been due to moisture under the bed of the road. Regarding the Town Board’s request for a subsidy from the Main Highways Board toward the maintenance of the raffle inspector. Mr. McFarlane had suggested that the board should subsidise the highways inspector. Mr. Fawcett concluded by saying that if the Main Highways Board will not subsidise the board’s traffic inspector, he intended to withdraw from the traffic committee. Advice was received from the Auckland Power Board to the effect that it was unable to replace the existing street lights on account of the present fittings being obsolete. Mr. Whyte expressed the opinion that the letter was full of bluff. Mr. Osborne said it would be a good idea to allow stone throwing to conic into vogue. Mr. Gallaher and Mr. Whyte were appointed to wait on the Power Board i to discuss the question.
