• THEFT OF A RING Press Association WELLINGTON, Today. The plans made by Bruce Burns and Phyllio Marjory Thom, aged 17 and 19 respectively, to leave Auckland and obtain employment with a view to getting married, did not fully materialise. They reached Wellington, but being unable to find work, funds became low, and after pawning various arj tides to get money to buy food, they stooped to stealing a ring valued at £37 from a jeweller’s shop, and found themselves in the hands of the police. Tho ring was taken from a tray by the girl, an-:l handed to Burns, in whose possession it was subsequently found. From inquiries made in Auckland, it was stated in the Police Court today that the characters of the two had been satisfactory, ancl the probation officer recommended probation. Mr. E. Page. S.M., agreed, and fixed the period at two years, directing that , the girl return to her people in Auckland. and ordering that accused were not to associate with one another during the period of probation.
