PROGRESS IN CHURCH
EDENDALE PRESBYTERIANS’ * YEAR Increases in the church numbers and enlargements to the building were reported at the annual meeting of the Edendale Presbyterian Church. The -Rev. W. Gilmour presided over an attendance of 70 at the meeting, which was held on Wednesday evening. The session report mentioned that 30 of the 43 names added to the roll were by profession of faith. For this result, the Bible class leaders were thanked. The roll stood at 220. 1 and enlargements and renovations had been made at the church. The report added that the speakers at the opening services were the Governor-Gen-eral, Sir Charles Fergusson, and the Moderator of the General Assembly, the Rev. G. Budd. The church’s roll of honour was unveiled by Mr. J. Carrie. Mr. E. H. Potter, Mayor of Mount Eden, attended and Sir Harry Lauder gave an address. The congregation had decided on ! the erection of a new manse and the building would soon be handed over. Tlio collections during the year reached £1,200 and the balance of assets over liabilities was £2,900. Sunday school figures showed that there were 26S j scholars and 26 teachers. Reports and balance-sheets were received from the Presbyterian Women’s Mission Union, the Women’s Association, the Bible Class Council, the Senior, Intermediate and Junior Young Women’s Bible Classes. the Girls’ Auxiliary, the Young Men’s Bible Classes, the choir, the girls’ club and the social and literary club. The Boy Scouts report showed 34 on the roll, and the Girl Guides were reported to be 30 in number. Mr. H„ Black, senior elder, pre- ! sented Mr. G. T. Lee with a gold wrist- ! let watch on behalf of the congregation for services as choirmaster and organist. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr. C. L. French, who has retired ! fr om positions as Sunday school sup- ; enntendent and Bible, class leader to i study for the ministry. Managers elected were:—Mrs. Mackay, Mrs. Harvey.
