“LATE HORRIBLE WAR”

TAUMARUNUI’S TROPHY NOT TO BE DUMPED From Our Own Correspondent TAUMARUNUI, Wednesday. Labour members, had something to say on one of their pet shibboleths at the fortnightly meeting of the Taumarunui Borough Council. At the conclusion of the war the borough received a German field gun as a trophy of the struggle, and this was placed in a position adjacent to the Public Library. Cr. S. A. Dryland referred to the gun as an eyesore that had a tendency to remind people of the. “late horrible war.” He moved, and Cr. W. Harvey seconded, that the gun be removed to the council’s dump. The proposal was negatived emphatically, and on a motion by Crs. D. M. Simmons and Z. Simcock it was resolved that the Works Committee go into the question of renovating the | trophy.
