DEATH ON EXPRESS
MR. A. F. LOWE, CLERK TO LEGISLATURE COLLAPSE NEAR TAIHAPE Press Association TAIHAPE, Today. The Clerk of the Legislative Assembly, Air, A. 1Y Lowe, C.M.G., died on the Auckland-bound express at Mangaweka shortly after midnight last night. He became unwell at Huntcrville while reclining in a sleeper and a fellow-passenger called the guard, who searched the train unsuccessfully for a doctor. The train was stopped ut Mangaweka and Dr. Macdiarmid, of Taihape, was notified to await its arrival. The body was removed to the Taihape Hospital. An inquest may be unnecessary on the certificate of deceased’s doctor in Wellington. Mrs. Lowe was on the train. For over 4u years the late Mr. Alexander Francis Lowe. C.M.G., played a prominent part in the technical work of Parliament. In 1885 he began as a Parliamentary clerk, and has since held the positions of Clerk of Select Committees, Reader of Bills. Second Clerk Assistant, Clerk of the House of Representatives, and latterly Clerk of the Legislative Council, and Examiner of Standing Orders on Private Bills. In 1924 he was made a Companion of the Order of St. Michael and St. George in recognition of his long and thorough service. Air. Lowe was born at Nelson fh 1861, the son of the late Air. James Townsend Lowe. lie was educated at Nelson College and later went to England to complete *his studies. Mr. Lowe always took a keen interest in acclimatisation, particularly in regard to the re-stocking or rivers with trout. He was vice-president of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society, and also honorary secretary of the New Zealand Branch of the Empire Parliamentary Association,
