MATAMATA BRANCH INTERESTING ADDRESSES The first meeting of the Alatamata Women’s Institute was held on Tuesday afternoon in St. Andrew’s Hall. Mrs. Kyan, who presided, welcomed tho members and urged them to keep in view the aims of the movement ui home-making, co-operation and citizenship, so that such gatherings might ultimately be of great assistance and value to the district. A few opening choruses were sung, the accompanist*? being the secretary, Mrs. Jl. E. Schofield. In tlu oinw of the business following. Mcsdamw R. L. Stevens and C. E. Barry were elected vice-presidents. A noteworthy move was the formation of -j credje committee to care for the little ones during the meeting. Mr. R. L. Stevens gave a most instructive address on “Procedure and the Art of Chairmanship.” illustrating his remarks in a most practical manner. Dr. Alary Wilson, who was visiting the local schools, also attended and spoke on “The Importance of Diet in Health.” Many useful hints and helpful menu suggestions were given. Both speakers were greatly appreciated. Afternoon tea was dispensed, and a very pleasant gathering was brought to u close by the singing of the National Anthem. E. Lapwood, Tuakau, was | married to Air. Frances Herman : Werner, fourth son of Airs, and the ; late Air. C. K. Werner, of Otahuhu. The i Rev. C. A. Vaughan performed the i ceremony. Airs. Vaughan presiding at ; the organ. Air. Alex Logan performed the duties 1 of best man. The bride, who was given away by her uncle. Air. Colin Wood, of Cambridge. wore a charming frock of cream • georgette and silk net. finished with 1 large tulie bow, and hand-made silver flowers. Her veil, which formed a train, was of embroidered silk net rind lace, arranged with cap effect, and held in place with clusters of orange blossom. carried a bouquet of white roses, stock and sweet pea. which were tied with long satin streamers. In attendance on the bride was Aliss AJavis Lapwood, a cousin, who wore a pretty frock of crepe de chine in palm forest green shade, with a threetiered skirt trimmed with diamente. Her hat was of cream crinoline straw lined with lace, and finished with green sprays and diamente. A bou- : <iuet of Iceland poppies and sweet peas was carried. A reception was afterwards held at the home of tho bride’s mother, the rooms being delightfully arranged with ; arum lilies, roses and asparagus fern, j A travelling dress of lemon crepe de \ chin© under a fawn coat was worn, j with small hat to tone.
