ANNUAL FETE

Vasanta Garden School STUDENTS' CONCERT Tho annual garden fete of the Vasanta Garden School was held in the school grounds on Saturday afternoon and was largely attended by pupils and visitors. Ideal weather conditions prevailed and everyone entered wholeheartedly into the fun. The main feature of the afternoon was the concert staged by the students of tho Webb School of Music. Their performance, which comprised singing and eurythmics, is deserving of the highest commendation, and reflects great credit upon their instructress. Other attractions included a sale of work, as well as the sale of flowers and books. Delightful orchestral music was played throughout the afternoon. DANCE RECITAL PAPAKURA SUCCESS A very delightful dance recital was given in the Paragon Theatre, Papakura, on Friday evening, by the Papakura pupils of Miss M. McGregor, assisted by some of her Auckland pupils. There was a splendid attendance and much interest was taken in the various dances by the children, all of whom were loudly applauded for their very artistic efforts. The programme opened with “The Wedding of the Painted Doll,” other numbers included: Spanish dun, “Gay Cabbalero,” ‘'The Broadway Melody,” “The Dance of the Paper Dolls,” “A Coster Dance,” and “The Forty-seven Ginger-headed Sailors.” The final number was a miniature pantomime entitled “Queen of Hearts.” A feature of the evening was the particularly pretty frooking. UNPLEASANT WEATHER The sharp wind blowing over Te Rapa on Saturday made heavy wraps and fur coats the popular wear among the ladies at the Waikato races. The evening was spent in competitions and dancing, musical items rendered by Messrs. J. White and H. Hilton being also greatly appreciated. The ball looked gay with its decorations of coloured streamers. Air. P. Alay successfully carried out the duties of ARC. The winners of the Monte Carlo waltz were Aliss K. McFarland and Air. G.
