CHURCH IN A DAY
MANGERE METHODISTS BUSY SERVICE TOMORROW Vnion hours and “Government stroke - ’ were thrown to the winds at Mangere Last today, when a band of some 30 workers met before the last grey streaks of dawn had faded, and commenced work on the erection of the Methodist Church Hall with the, intention of finishing it today. Carpenters, painters, plumbers, elec-; tricians, labourers, and the necessary ; dispensers of refreshments. were busily engaged at their respective callings. The building, which is 40ft x 21ft is being erected by voluntary labour, and when completed this evening will contain the main hall 24ft by 21ft, two classrooms, and a kitchenette. The latter will be so fitted that it can also be used as a classroom. The section, at the corner of Ferguson and William Streets, was purchased with money donated for the purpose, and a quantity of the timber and joinery was also donated. The plans and specifications of the building were prepared gratis by Mr. John Sanderson. If the workers are successful in their one-day effort, it is intended to hold a service in the new building tomorrow evening. The work is in charge of Messrs. J. Sanderson, W. Fothergill and XV. Heald. Keen interest was taken in the operations by the women members of the Mangere Hast, Papatoetoe, and Otahuhu Churches, who were busily engaged in preparing and serving meals to the band of energetic workers.
