MAORI ENTERTAINERS
CITY TO HEAR MISSION PARTIES Maori music and oratory, interpreted by tribal representatives from North Auckland to Otago, will comprise a true Polynesian entertainment arranged by the Methodist Maori Mission for presentation in the Town Hall on Monday, November 25. One object j of the concert will be to illustrate the j work of the Methodist Church among ! Maoris. Karanga (calls), waiata (songs). ■ Stone Age games, tititoreato (stick games) matemate (sign games), ! choruses, liakas, poi dancing, and instrumental items form a varied pro- ; gramme to be given by two mission parties which are concluding tours of New Zealand. Before the actual enter- | tainment, community singing, at which ! tho Rev. A. J. Seamer, superintendent i of the mission, will b 8 chairman, will i be conducted. The entertainment will open with a Maori welcome by Auck- | land natives. Other main items will be poi dances by girls from every ! province of the Dominion, the ancient ; long-stringed poi, the canoe poi. hakas by selected parties, and choruses : by the entertainers. Among the soloists will be Paikea Toka (North Auckland), Te Aho-o-tc-Rangi Pihama (Waikato), IE Wanairangi (Taranaki), Wi Perahama ; (Manawatu), Hinerangi Hikurangi 1 (Ratana, Wanganui), Taka Ropata and I Wiremu Tainui (Canterbury), Hone i Wereta (Wellington), and Mori Lri- > hana (Otago). One of the choruses I will be by the students of Wesley College, Paerata.
