DEVONPORT’S SCHEME INAUGURATION TONIGHT street 1 will be lighted every' night from sunset to 11 p.m. under a scheme fostered by the Waiiemata Chamber of Commerce which " ill be inaugurated tonight. At 7.15 this evening the Mayor of Devonport. Mr. E. Aldridge, will switch on the current from the Waiiemata Power Board's office in Victoria Road. Lighting will be done by a system of uniform electric lamps set under the shop verandahs in such a manner as to light up both the footpath and the window displays. Shopkeepers will pay individually for the amount of current used, but the lighting will be controlled from a master switch in the Power Board's building. Speeches will be made this evening at the Power Board’s office by the Mayor. Devon port’s three representatives on the Power Board, and by Air. T. Wals’f. president of the Waiteinata Chamber of Commerce.
