Presbytery last evening re- j cording its high appreciation of the j distinguished services Ihev had ren- I , dered to whatever was calculated to i promote public good. 1 The resolution, which was moved by j the Rev. AV. Lawson Marsh, read as j follows: — j “During the term of office now cios- j ing. their Excellencies have not only i maintained, but have greatly enriched, j the high traditions associated with the | Governor- Generalship of this Dominion. Their ready and generou-s response made to heavy and continuous demands upon their practical sympathies have endeared them to all sections of the community. The Auckland Presbytery takes the opportunity of expressing its gratification at the encouragement which their Excellencies have given to the churches and the various organisations devoted to the spiritual and moral welfare of young and old. Their example has emphasised the vital relation between citizenship and religion and will long remain an inspiration to the coming generation. “The Auckland Presbytery joins with the country in wishing their Excellencies a safe and happy return borne, and prays that their days may be attended with happiness and prosperity.” A commission of the presbytery was appointed to wait upon his Excellency and convey to him in person the terms of the resolution. SERVICES AT PRISON A report was presented to the meeting by the Rev. L. H. Hunt, from the Life and Work Committee 'n connection with arrangements for visits of ministers to the Auckland Prison. He said that he had reason to believe that men had complained that they had never heard a Presbyterian minister preach at the gaol. It was decided to arrange for regular services to be conducted, with the presence of choirs when possible. It was stated that the Young j Women’s Bible Class was contemplat- i ing the purchase of a section at Little j Murray’s Bay for use as a camp site, ! at an approximate cost of £3OO. The ! section is adjacent to the beach and a j recreation reserve. Approval was given of the scheme. During the meeting Messrs. M. H. Feist and L. G. B. Whitehead, two students, were licensed as preachers by the moderator, who, in adressing them, stressed the importance of preaching. DEATH OF MINISTER Cable advice received in Auckland I ! yesterday of the death in America of j the Rev. Robert Robinson Greenwood, who served in the ministry of the Presbyterian Church at Papakura for about five years, was mentioned at the meeting by the Rev. T U. Roseveare. The news was received in solemn silence. Mr. Greenwood recently suffered a severe heart attack, ana was eom- | pelled to resign from his work. lie ! was born in Scotland and was trained | I for the ministry in England.
