TENDER FOR TRAM WHEELS
FULFILMENT OF CONTRACT FIRM HONOURS AGREEMENT The firm of William Cooke and Company New Zealand Proprietary, Ltd., which tendered some time ago for the supply of tram wheels to the Auckland Transport Board, and whose tender was accepted, advised the board yesterday that it was proceeding with the fulfilment of the contract. The tirm had found subsequent to the acceptance of the tender that the price quoted was under-stated in error and asked for relief. This, however, was declined. board replied that as the tender h#l been dealt with in open competition modification would be unfair. The chairman. Mr. J. A. C. Allum. said then that that was the first time the board had experienced a firm not wishing to go on with a contract. In commenting on the company’s j notification. Mr. Allum said yesterday j that lie regretted that there had been any misunderstanding or misconcep-; tion about anything lie had said. It was unfortunate that the board could j not grant relief, but if mistakes were j made the tenderers must bear the ! consequences, otherwise the board i would be most vulnerable. He was ; glad to say that the firm was now j supplying goods in conformance with ( the contract.
