ONLY FOUR DAYS A YEAR DECISION OF CONFERENCE | The conference of local bodies to j deal with street collections, held at | Onehunga last evening, unanimously i decided to allocate one day to the St. I John Ambulance Association, one day I to Poppy Day anti two additional days ‘ to he divided between ail other i societies. Tiie Mayor of Onehunga. Mr. E. . Morton, presided, and the following representatives were present:—Mr. J. I*. McPhail, Mayor of Birkenhead: .Mr. J. C. Mulholland. One Tree Hill Road I Board: Mr. T. Clements, Mayor of ’ Otahuhu; Mr. R. Sanft, Mount Roskill Road Board: Mr. T. J. Watts, Xew--1 market Borough Council: and members of the Onehunga Borough C'oun- | cil. - Many letters were received from the different societies affected, in which general objection was expressed to any curtailment of their activities in appealing to the public by means of street collections. After discussion the following resolution. moved by Mr. Mulholland. was adopted: “This conference, on behalf of the local bodies represented, confirms the decision to allow street colj lections on four days of the year. One j collection to be on Poppy Day and one , for the St. John Ambulance Association, and that, application be invited I from the various societies which wish ' to take up street collections to apply : to the secretary on or before Novemi ber -5. I Mr. 11. A. Yockney. town clerk of , Onehunga, was appointed secretary, ! and the conference decided to meet I again on December 6 to consider up- ! plications and allocate dates.
