VACANT HOUSE TRAGEDY

WOMAN FINDS DEAD BODY HEAD IN GAS OVEN Press Association WELLINGTON, Monday. When a woman, a prospective tenant, was being shown over a vacant house at Alma Street this morning, she opened a door, revealing the body of a man. The head rested in a gas oven, which was turned full on, and apparently the body had been lying there for two days. Deceased was identified as A. Stewart, a labourer, -who was a former tenant of the house. Death was due to asphyxiation and the taking of a quantity of disinfectant. Three months ago a woman named Brooker committed suicide in the same house by taking a similar poison.
