JUBILEE FAIR
PUKEKOHE FUNCTION GOOD RESULTS ASSURED The first of several functions to mark the jubilee of the opening of the Methodist Church at Pukekohe was a fair held on Thursday and Friday. During both days the sale was well patronised by th 6 townspeople, and a good result is expected. The Mayor, Mr. John Routly, performed the opening ceremony on Thursday afternoon. The stallholders were: Flowers, Mesdames J. M. Wright and Turner; fancy, Mesdames Switzer and Gillon; produce. Misses B. Smith and D. Purvis; aprons, Mrs. I. Fausett and Miss E. Brownlee; sweets and icecream, Mrs. Ellis, assisted by the Bible Class girls; novelty, Mrs. C. Mee and the Misses R. and J. Franklin, E. Wright and B. Rowe; cakes, Mesdames T. Brownlee, J. J. McKinney, Hubbard and Wharfe; plain sewing, Mesdames J. Bellhouse, Horne, L. Mitchell, S. Hulme and Davis; refreshments, Mesdames H. L. Fiebig, E. Smith, E. L. Curnow, Vant, Boase, R. Elliott and Miss J. Buchan. OTAHUHU BRANCH OF W.C.T.U. Mrs. F. Greenwood, president of the Otahuhu branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union, presided over a large attendance of members and friends at the monthly meeting held in the Methodist School Hall, Otahuhu, on Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Paine, of Otahuhu, gave a very interesting address on alcohol which, she said, was a cell poison. After the address a discussion was held. One new member was elected to the branch.
