WOMEN DISSATISFIED

AUCKLAND’S TRANSPORT Strong dissatisfaction of the position in Auckland regarding transport was expressed at a meeting of the women’s branch of the New Zealand Labour Party in Auckland, held yesterday, Mrs. L. Harrison presiding. The following resolution was passed unanimously: “That we women, representatives of Labour in Auckland, express a protest against the action of tho Transport Board in increasing tram fares and curtailing services, such action being inimical to workers* interests.” After discussion, it was decided to write to the Employers’ Association drawing attention to the position regarding married women in employment and asking that investigations be made into the circumstances of married applicants for positions and of married women already in employment. An interim report regarding the recent ball was received and satisfaction expressed at the result. A motion of thanks was passed to those who acted as judges, and to business firms and friends who donated prizes and refreshments. Correspondence was read from the Hon. H. Atmore, Minister of Education, regarding child welfare, and an investigation committee was set up with power to act.

The Rev. Wilna Constable will address the branch at a special meeting on November 21.
