CORNWELL CUP CONTEST
AT DUNEDIN THIS TIME DELEGATES FROM AUCKLAND The Cornwell Cup contest to be held early next year wiil be sailed this time at Dunedin. This decision was made at a meeting of the Takapuna Boating Club last evening. rjpHE club which has official supervision of the contest in Auckland was recently approached by the Otago Yacht and Motor Boat Association with the request that the racing be held in Dunedin this season. If that were possible the contest would receive a marked fillip in the South. Auckland, holding the cup, had the right to decide the venue. Lust season the contest was sailed at Lyttelton at the request of Canterbury boatmen and after a close series of races the Auckland boys retained the trophy. Otago has already challenged both for the Cornwell Cup and the Banders Cup. Wellington has intimated its intention to compete but did not ask for the right to conduct the contest, being desirous of endeavouring to win the cup and defend it on Port Nicholson. It is believed that Lyttelton and Canterbury will again challenge so that at least five boats will be m the contest. The Takapuna Boating Club appointed its delegates to the annual conference. They are Messrs. J. Waddell and F. Fortzer, who will make the trip to Dunedin when the contest takes place. The date is in the hands of the Otago Association. ft is expected that the races will be held about the last week in January or early in February. Mr. C. FLoverd, who has done much in previous contest held on the Waitemata to ensure their success, was again appointed secretary in the interests of tne Takapuna Club.
