CHIVALRY NOT DEAD
TALK ON MODERN KNIGHTS A lecture on ‘Modern Knights of the Round was given in the Beresford Street Congregational Church last evening by the Rev. D. Gardner Miller, of Christchurch. Basing his lecture on the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, Mr. Miller stated that the days of chivalry and romance were not over. There are modern knights who are doing bigger work today than almost any of the outstanding figures in bygone days. He instanced Dr. Grenfell, of Labrador, Albert Sweitzer, of Africa, Sadhu Sundah Singh, of India, and the late D r. Aggrey, of the Gold Coast, as being four of the greatest of these in modern times. A passing reference to Mr. Ramsay MacDonald, and to his work in America as that of a knight, evoked applause. Mr. Miller closed his lecture by appealing to his audience to take upon themselves the ancient vow of the knights—“To live purely, to speak truly, to follow the church.”
