OPOTIKI RIVERS RISE
SERVICES DISORGANISED FLOODS AT GISBORNE From Our JOtvn Correspondent OPOTIKI, Thursday. Considerable disorganisation of motor-car services has resulted in consequence of heavy rains in the Opotiki district during the last two days. Today the rivers are in high flood as a result of the heavy rainfall in the back country. Last night the OpotikiWhakatane road was blocked as the result of a big slip and cars did not arl-ive at Opotiki until midday, while passengers usually arriving at Opotiki from Gisborne about 10.30 a.m. did not arrive here until late this afternoon, missing the usual connections to Northern centres. The trouble on the Gisborne side is said to be the flooding of the Otoko stream, necessitating passengers taking the train to Motv.hora railhead, then coming on to Opotiki by servicecar. Residents here are keeping a strict watch on the rivers, which reached the highest level for some years this afternoon.
