CHILDREN IN DANGER
MOTORS WHICH SPEED PAST SCHOOL ALARM AT TAKAPUNA Danger to school children from fastmoving motor vehicles at Takapuna is pointed out to the Mayor of the borough, Mr. J. W. Williamson, in a letter from the Belmont School Committee. It is as follows: “The committee wishes to call your attention to the grave dangers that attenct the speeding of motor vehicles past the school. In spite of notices warning motorists of the nearness of the school, a most reckless speeding takes place during the rush hours of the morning. The danger time to our children is from about 8 till 9, and it is not possible for the present speeding to continue without accident; and we put it to you very earnestly, what will compensate parents for the loss of their child. “Some of the children must cross the road. May we ask protection for them from reckless motorists? We urge that the traffic inspector be instructed to take definite steps to prevent speeding past the school during the morning period of about 8 till 9. “We ask that this have your council’s most urgent attention. We can give our children no protection—only your council has the power. There is a legal maximum speed. Can we have it enforced?” -
