NEW REGENT
NEW PICTURES ON SATURDAY Only two more days remain of the Auckland season of Clara Bow’s latest talkie, “Dangerous Curves,” at the New Regent Theatre. In "Dangerous Curves” the peppy red-head gets away from her flapper queen roles and dons the spangles of a bareback rider ancl the motley of a clown. Richard Arlen. her leading man, portrays a tight-wire walker. David Newell and Kay Francis are other members of the featured supporting cast. The story is an original, written for Aliss Bow by Lester Cohen, the author of the novels, “Sweepings” and "The Great Bear.”
The programme also includes several entertaining short talkie featurettes. On Saturday, when the new programme will be presented, two new full-length pictures will be presented.
The exotic South Sea Islands, with their picturesque natives and fascinating beauty, is the locale for Ramon Novarro’s newest screen triumph, “The Pagan,” the first feature on Saturday. This new Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer production was directed by W. S. Van Dyke, director of “White Shadows in the South Seas,” on the original locale of the Russel novel. The company passed weeks in the tropics to film the story.
Renee Adoree, Donald Crisp and Dorothy Janis are the principal supporting players. The second attraction on Saturday is "Divorce Made Easy,” an all-talking comedy starring Douglas Mac Lean. This is typically amusing parlour-bedroom-and-bath farce with MacLean doing the best work of his career.
