MAGNIFICENT ROSES
AUCKLAND HORTICULTURAL SHOW EXCELLENT FLOWER DISPLAYS Magnificent roses of many hues, irises and pansies, cut flowers and native flora fill the Unity ITall. Today the Rose Show of the Auckland Horticultural Society was opened. The display, of roses is equal to that of previous shows, standard being maintained, while the entries are excellent. Over 300 varieties of single bloom roses are exhibited. A display by Sir Edwin Mitclielson, president of the society, of 50 varieties of single bloom roses, is striking and another notable exhibition is that of the Rev. C. L. Tuke, who is also exhibiting 50 varieties. The competition for the Loder Cup has drawn three entries. The 50guinea cup has been presented by Mr. Gerald Loder, a member of the Royal Horticultural Society of London, for the best display of New Zealand flora. The exhibits are excellent. A fine display of exotic flowers is made by Messrs. Duncan and Davis, and Mr. A. C. Tonkin has a beautiful display of calceolaria. Mr. W. J. Wernham, Dr. Macky and Mrs. Tattersfield have exhibited beautiful bearded iris. The competition will be open today and tomorrow.
