Obituary

MR. F. C. ALLEN Mr. E. C. Allen, who has died at Rotorua, was prominent in the timber industry in the North Island and was well known in the King Country, where he worked for 20 years, later going to Oliakune and then to Rotorua. He was a keen bowler and in addition to being one of the founders of the Ohakune Bowling Club, laid his own green. He was a prominent Mason and was a member and former president of the Waimarino Caledonian Society. Mr. Allen is survived by his wife and three married daughters. EX-CONSTABLE CARMODY The death has occurred of ex-Con-stable Patrick John Carmody, at his residence in Gittos Street, Parnell, at the age of 76 years. A highlyrespected and popular former member of the Police Force, the death of Mr. Carmody is being deeply felt by many of the older members of the force, with whom he was associated. Born in County Clare, Ireland, Mr. Carmody left his home for Tasmania 'when a boy. He later came to New Zealand to join the Police Force and was stationed at Dunedin and later at Outrim and Whangaroa, where he retired on superannuation. At the outbreak of the war the Police Force was considerably weakened and he again went into the service until the force was built up again. Mr. Carmody had been living in Auckland for about ten years.
