THROWN ON TO STUMP

INJURED HORSEMAN’S LONG TRIP 24 HOURS TO HOSPITAL (Special to THE SUN) OPOTIKI, Tuesday. Serious injuries were received by Mr. John Thomas Murphy when he was thrown from his horse on to a tree-stump near Fairweathers. His condition is critical. Great difficulty was experienced in getting the injured man to the hospital at Opotiki. One launch put out to pick him up, but had to return owing to the rough sea. Finally, Mr. Murphy was carried on a stretcher to Raukore, and from there taken by launch to Maraenui. Owing to the rough sea the journey of 30 miles took four hours to cover. At Maraenui the injured man was placed in a car and arrived at Opotiki Hospital 24 hours after the accident had occurred.
