NORTHERN EXPRESS

SPEEDING UP ARRANGEMENTS ELIMINATION OF STOPS The Northern express ito Whangarei is to be speeded up by approximately half an hour. A conference of chambers of commerce in the Auckland district on July 10 passed a remit concerning: the speeding up of the Northern express. Since then the matter has been discussed by the Auckland and Northern Chambers of Commerce on the one hand and the Railway Department on the other, and the Auckland chamber has now been notified that commencing on December :» the Northern express will be speeded up by approximately half an hour. The express will leave Auckland at the same time as previously and the half-hour will be saved, not by making faster running, but by the elimination of 13 stops on the journey. The arrival of the express at an earlier hour will give those completing the journey by’ car the advantage of daylight.
