QUICK REPAIRS
WASHABLE ADHESIVE What joy to be able to patch and mend rents in a few minutes without auy sewing! There is a new washable adhesive which makes this possible. To mend a tear in a woollen fabric, cut k. piece of lining material half an inch bigger all round than the rent. Cover both lining and the wrong side of the tear with the adhesive, squeezing it from the tube and spreading it on evenly with your Augers. It dries almost at once. Give a second coating, and while this is sticky, press the lining to the wrong side of the tear. Turn to the right side and press the edges of the tear together with scissor points. Then, with a warm (not hot) iron, press the mended tear. Repairs done .in this way can be both washed and ironed safely at home, though it isn’t advisable to send them to the laundry. This stuff is invaluable for mending frocks which would be ruined by a large and obvious darn. If you are doing applique embroidery you’ll find it a labour-saving plan to attach the appliques to the background with this new adhesive. It’s quicker and gives a flatter result than tacking. Trimmings can be added to frocks if they are stuck down with this invention.
