WINTER SHOW
QUESTION OF FUTURE CONTROL CONFERENCE SUGGESTED The suggestion that a conference should be held to discuss the future control of the annual winter exhibition was put forward in a letter from the Auckland Manufacturers’ Association received by the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association, which met yesterday, the president, Mr. J. T. F. Mitchell, presiding. The two associations at present jointly control the exhibition and the suggestion made by the Manufacturers’ Association was that committees of four from each body should confer. The manufacturers had already decided to appoint their special committee. The proposal was discussed in committee. and it was decided to defer further consideration. PROPERTY SALE Final confirmation of the sale by the association to the Challenge Phosphate Company of a property of 37 acres at Otahuhu was decided upon. Members were gratified at the finalising of the deal, and the price, £15,000. Following a discussion as to the use to which the money might be put, it was suggested that the sum should be put aside for the purchase of a showground. A special committee was appointed to consider the question. Alterations to the schedule for the autumn show in February were approved. These provide for a new children’s pony class in the light horses and for new breeders’ classes in the cattle and sheep. Two special classes have also been added in pigs. New sections were approved for roots and vegetables, fruit, needlework, photography, schools, rabbits and poultry.
It was reported that the Auckland show had been granted North Island championships in cattle, horses and pigs. The championships in sheep had been allotted to the Wairarapa show.
