BOXING AT TE AWAMUTU
FINAL TOURNEY ARRANGED From Our Uu,** Correspondent TE AWAMUTU, Today. The final boxing tournament for the year, under the auspices of the Te Awamutu Young Men’s Institute, will be staged on Monday, November 25. Two star bouts will take place between A. Craig (light-weight champion of South Auckland) and C. McMahon (light-weight champion of Taihape), and C. Craig (welter-weight champion of South Auckland) and J. McMahon (welter-weight champion of Taihape). Other bouts will be provided by the following:—E. Holmes (Te Awamutu), J. Jamieson (Korakonui), B. Elliott (Ohaupo), Mitchell (Ohaupo). Askew (Te Rore), J. Horan (Te Awamutu), Ivennerley (Te Awamutu), Sims (Pirongia), W. Craig (Te Awamutu), Davies (Pirongia), F. Laskey (Te Awamutu). Bell (Pirongia), P. Ryan (Tc Awamutu), E. Adams (Te Awamutu), J. Fleming (Te Awamutu), M. Cooper (Cambridge). TAURANGA SPORTS From Our Oxen Correspondent TAURANGA, Today. The annual steeplechase events of the Tauranga High School were held this week and created considerable interest. The course for the seniors, about three and a-half miles, was a trying one, but all the competitors finished. The race resulted: F. Clarke, 1; M. Pearson, 2; P. Sander, There were 70 runners in the junior steeplechase, over a two-mile course. The result was:—A Bremner, 1; C. Guinness, 2; J. Hopkins, 3. J. A. Newman, coach to the Canterbury Cricket Association, played 47 innings for the Hampshire Countyeleven in the past English cricket season, and scored SS9 runs, at an average of 19.32: he was once not out. took 6S wickets for 29.04 runs apiece. The decline in his figures in such a fine summer indicates how unfortunate it was that Newman started the season under the handicap of illliealth.
