HISTORIC ASSOCIATIONS

A summer cottage that, once housed Cromwell’s men is one of the cherished possessions of Hilda Cowham, the English artist, who with her husband, Mr. Edgar Lander, also an artist, often visits Chinnor, where the quaintly thatched cottage is situated. She has christened it "Cromwell Cottage” because of its associations. After three hundred years of lamps and candles electric light has recently been installed, but the water is drawn from an ancient well that does not even boast a pump. Here the artists retire with their brushes and palettes and combine work with holiday-making.
