SLAUGHTERMEN RESUME WORK
Killing Started This Afternoon PARTIES holding conference THE slaughtermen concerned in the strike at the City Abattoir and the works of R. and W. Hellaby, Ltd., at Westfield, returned to work at 2 o’clock this afternoon as a preliminary to further negotiations. This course was decided upon at a meeting held this morning.
'Mr. p. Hally, conciliation commistoner, who returned from official oiness at Wellington yesterday, flnmunicated with the interested paries early this morning, and with Mr. Sill, secretary of the Butchers’ Union, went out to Otahuhu, where a meeting was arranged. It was held in a scoria pit on the rugged slopes of Mount Richmond, which is opposite the works affected. Here the men were addressed by Mr. Hally and Mr. Sill. The intimation from the. City Council that if the men resumed work the council would be
prepared to consider any representations they desired to make in regard to the award was discussed. The meeting commenced shortly alter ten o’clock and before eleven the men had agreed to resume work. A conference between both parties, at which Mr. Hally will be present, is being held at the Town Hall this afternoon. A -further meeting of the slaughtermen will be held tomorrow evening, when the result of the conference will be discussed. The conciliation commissioner is j hopeful that a satisfactory concluI sion will be arrived at.
