PENSIONS COMPLAINT
ADMINISTRATION OF MAORI APPLICATIONS NO GOVERNMENT MOVE Government inactivity in remedying defects, stated by the Akarana Maori Association to exist in the administration of Maori old age pensions, was the subject of a complaint by the association last evening. The association considers native pensioners to be affected by a disability, not of legislation, but of administration. It considers that the discretion left to officers of the Pensions Department is unreasonably exercised. The complaint is that the pensions officers have supposed Maori pensioners to have valuable land interests and have so reduced their payments. Europeans, even if they possess household property, receive full pensions.
