Wireless to the “New York Times.” Reed. 9.5 a.m. BAY OF WHALES, Wednesday. The five dog-teams of the geological party, having taken loads hundreds of miles, returned after eight and a-half days. They tumbled iu just before dinner. The dogs were eager for seal meat, Instead of the pemmican they have eaten lately, and the men were just as anxious to get inside and eat a warm dinner in comfort. All five drivers, Vaughan, Goodale, Crockett, O’Brien and Thorne, were in good condition, though their faces were burned and peeling, from facing the wind going out and the sun* all ♦lie way back. When they left, they had a bitter cold wind in their faces, and the temperature rapidly dropped to 30 degrees below zero on the interior of the Barrier. They became soaked with perspiration travelling in the hot sun during the day, and when they stopped at night their outside clothing froze before they could get it off. The sun was so warm that iu one depot at 20 degrees below zero it melted a bag of pemmican, which had been improperly covered with snow: and it even melted the snow on the canvas tanks.
