! Mrs. Speight's Pupils’ Final Dance WITCHES AND BLACK CATS St. George's Hall, Ranfurly Road, Epsom, was the scene of a delightful party on Tuesday evening, when Mrs. C. E. Speight held the final dance of the season for her pupils and their friends. Keenan, moonlight bue beaded net over crepe de chine; Aliss Cohen, cream beaded georgette and posy; Aliss E. AlcGowan, black panne velvet, diamente trimming, coral pink shawl; Aliss At. Gladding, diabolo chenille georgette and black cape; Aliss Rona Taylor, naples blue taffeta, showing uneven hemlipe; Aliss AT. Hutton, turquoise blue taffeta and silver; Aliss Nancy Firth, fawn crepe de chine and Spanish shawl; Aliss K. M. Jacobsen, ivory georgette and panne velvet; Miss J. Johnston, pale blue crepe de chine, with wide blue lace. HAEREMAI SOCIETY JOLLY BRIDGE PARTY MUSICAL ITEMS A very enjoyable bridge afternoon was given by Airs. R. L. Cleland, the organising secretary of the recently formed Haeremai Society, at the Navy League rooms yesterday. The rooms were charmingly arranged with bowls of roses. During the afternoon Airs. Gordon Brown sang' “Vale” ancl “Danny Boy,” both songs being greatly appreciated. Afternoon tea was served by Airs. Cleland. Among those present were;—Mrs. Robson, Mrs. Prentice, Airs. Tillsley, Airs. Clover, Airs. Norman, Airs. Airey, Mrs. Baker, and Aliss C. Gribbin. Several lady visitors from North Shore croquet clubs were also present. DELIGHTFUL TEA PARTY CHARMING DECORATIONS A very pleasant afternoon was given by Aliss L. Smith to a number of her friends at her residence, “Fernleigh,” Symonds Street, yesterday afternoon. Afternoon tea was served in the drawing room, which had been beautifully arranged with iceland poppies, stock and maidenhair fern. Aliss Smith received her guests in a dainty frock of floral crepe de chine. Among those present were: Mesdames Scholium, Williams, Larsen, Barnett, Barker, Honeycombe, Nulhert, Loftus, O’Brien, Ready, Delaney, Sloane, Docherty, and Han fling-. Other guests were:—Alisses Clancey, Mahoney, Flynn, Ormond, P. F. Flynn, N. Flynn, Scholium, O’Brien, Williams, Ryan, Quirk, Wells and Donovan. COUNCIL ENTERTAINED FUNCTION AT DEVONPORT Members of the Devonport Borough Council were entertained by the Mayor, Air. E. Aldridge, and Airs. Aldridge, in the council chambers last evening to mark the renovation of the rooms and tlio completion in office of six months’ service. The Mayor referred to the friendly relations existing between members, which made for the progress of the borough. Much had already been done. In reply Air. J. Hislop, deputyMayor, thanked Mr. and Airs. Aldridge for arranging the enjoyable function and also referred to the spirit of cooperation between council members. WHANGAREI NEWS Airs. N. E. Crimp returned from Auckland yesterday. * * * Aliss Aloeller left on Friday to spend a few days with her family in Auckland. * * * Aliss Myrtle Burn, Alount Eden, is the guest of Airs. Robertson, Alill Road, for a few days. * * * Airs. Cox, accompanied by Airs. "Wallis, of Sarsfield Street, Herne Bay, is in Whangarei visiting her daughter, Airs. Webster. * * * Air. and Airs. H. J. Jordan, of Woodlands, Southland, are spending an extended holiday with their daughter Mrs. L. A. Day, Baptist Alanse, Bank Street. Airs. Bevin, of Hamilton, is the guest of Air. and Mrs. A. S. Bevin, Graham Street, for a short holiday. * * * Airs. Given, of Powhiri Avenue, left 1 yesterday for Auckland. She will ; spend a few days with her mother at Bayswater. * * * Miss Gwenneth Hague-Smith, of Norfolk Street.
