“DUD” CHEQUE EXPERT

MANY CONVICTIONS ON LIST EXPLOIT AT HAMILTON From Our Own Correspondent HAMILTON, Today. A sentence of six months’ imprisonment was imposed on Charles Mozart Spinley, a middle-aged man, by Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., in the Police Court today, for obtaining £l2 10s from Albert Newby, a Hamilton service car proprietor, by means of a valueless cheque. Spinley, who is serving a sentence for similar offences at Rotorua, Te Aroha and Cambridge, said he would try to make restitution if given a chance. Spinley’s system was to arrive at a town by service car and cash a cheque with the car booking agent, allegedly made out by an employer at some distance from the place from which he had come.

Accused has a lengthy list, including sentences for forgery and uttering, false pretences, passing counterfeit coins and theft. He is also awaiting trial on a charge of making a false declaration of marriage at Auckland.
