15,500 SIGNATURES

ELSIE WALKER PETITION GOING TO PARLIAMENT The public petition promoted by the Auckland branch of the National Council of Women, with the object of having the existing legislation amended to permit the reopening of inquests, with particular relation to the case of Elsie Walker, which has been in circulation for about a week, has been signed by 15,500 persons. Many copies of the petition have not yet been handed into headquarters, and it is stated that had more time been available, many more signatures could have been obtained.

The petition has been forwarded to the Hon. A. J. Stallworthy, Minister of Health, and should reach Wellington on Thursday morning. The Minister will present it to Parliament. The council is circularising all Auckland members of Parliament asking them to support the petition when it appears in the House.
