HARBOUR IMPROVEMENTS
ACTIVITIES OF THE BOARD NEW LAUNCH LANDING A landing in wood with two sets or launch-steps, to cost in all £1,500, was approved by the Harbour Board yesterday afternoon. The landing will -have accommoda tion for the existing launchmen’s offices with additions. It will be placed Outside the northern breastwork .of the viaduct and adjoining Prince's Wharf. A light portable iron fence for enclosing berths on the Western Wharf when required was approved on the recommendation of the Works Committee. Fourteen acres of Waikowhai vested in the board have been gazetted a public reserve. Notification to this effect was received from the Bands Department. A letter was also received from the Department of Internal Affairs, stating that the Minister had provisionally approved the inclusion of a clause in the Local Legislation Bill vesting the land in the Crown as a public domain. Further amendments by the board's solicitors to the proposed by-laws regarding the licensing of tugs and barges having been approved by the board-in-committee, the draft was adopted in that form. In connection with the scheme for subdividing and reading the old Auckland railway station site the Works Committee recommended that no objection bo raised to the scheme ns shown on the plan proposed by the Alayor of Auckland and the Railways department. The committee pointed out, however, that the board would require to be compensated for any land proposed to be taken. The chairman, Air. AT. H. Wynyard, moved that any pronouncement on the scheme be deferred, in order that the board might go into the matter with its tenants. This course was adopted.
