LAUNCH RUNS AGROUND

WAKANUI ON BEACH The launch Wakanui ran herself ashore at Maraetai yesterday morning. Sho left Auckland with a large party of excursionists aboard for Beachlands and Maraetai, and having too much way on when approaching the Maraetai Wharf, run herself on to the beach. A rope was attached to the vessel and pleasure-seekers heaved in an attempt to rollout her, but to no avail, tilio stayed there until high water carried her “off the hard.” A few excursionists lost their faith in the Wakanui and return to Auckland by motor-car, while the launch Sambo was sent down to get the remainder.
