AUSTRALIAN BOXER
COOK LOSES REVERSED DECISION TECHNICAL KNOCKOUT (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) (United Service) NEW YORK, Monday. There was a peculiar ending to a boxing contest between George Cook (Australia) and Jimmy Mendez, a local light-heavy-weight, -at New Bedford, Massachusetts. There were 200 spectators. The first round consisted ftrincipally of clinching and wrestling. Both men scored rights to the face. It was Mendez’s round. Mendez took the secoud round with rights to the jaw. Both were very slow. In the third, Cook missed wildly. Mendez scored to the chin, and it was his round. A disagreement ended the contest in the -fourth round. The referee gave the decision to Cook on a foul. Then his decision was reversed, and the Boxing Commission awarded Mendez a technical knockout.
