TIVOLI
“THE DIVINE LADY” The historic romance of Lady Hamilton and Lord Nelson forms the central theme of “The Divine Lady,” the synchronised picture at the Tivoli Theatre. The picture also depicts the historic struggle between England, France and Spain for supremacy of the seas. Based on E. Barrington’s novel of the same name, the film was directed by Frank Lloyd. The role of Lady Hamilton, who exercised such an influence over Lord Nelson, is played by the beautiful actress, Corinne Griffith. The equally important role of England’s greatest naval hero, Horatio Nelson, is taken by Victor Varconi, who gives a faithful portrayal. The notable cast includes such well-known artists as U. B. Warner and lan Keith. A reproduction of the Battle of Trafalgar is a feature of the production. The stirring action, the intense drama and the colour of the days of sailing ships are all transferred to the screen. The story of Lady Hamilton’s rise from a child of humble parentage to a position of the highest society standing is also related in a series of interesting incidents. The Tivoli is also showing a number of fine talking and singing featurettes.
