PUKEKOHE BOROUGH COUNCIL

The Pukekohe Borough Council met on Monday evening, the Mayor, Mr. John ltoutly, presiding. In reply to the council's refusal to defray the cost of redecking the overhead railway bridge, at a cost of £95, the Railway Department pointed out that under the Government Railways Amendment Act, 1913. repairs to such bridges were to be carried out by the department at the cost of the local body. Details of the estimates of the cost are to be sought from the department. Several objections to the council’s decision to charge rentals for the use of unused roads were received and the \V orks Committee was delegated to inspect the areas with the view of arriving at assessments. The Minister of Education wrote declining the council’s application for a subsidy toward the upkeep of the municipal swimming bath, and stating that it could not assist as the land upon which the bath was erected was not vested in the Education Board.
