BRUCE CABINET RESIGNS
SCULLIN COMMISSIONED TO FORM MINISTRY LABOUR HAS 46 SEATS United P.A.—By Telegraph—Copyright Reed. 9.5 a.m. CANBERRA, Mr. Stanley M. Bruce today tendered his resignation as Prime Minister and that of the Cabinet to the GovernorGeneral, Lord Stonehaven. Subsequently his Excellency sent for Mr. J. H. Scullin, Leader of the Labour Party, and commissioned him to form a Ministry. Balloting for the selection of Mr. Scullin’s Ministers was commenced yesterday. It will be continued today. In most of the outstanding electorates the election count is sufficiently advanced to indicate the final strength of the parties in the Commonwealth Parliament, which is as follows: Labour .. 46 Nationalist 14 Independent Nationalist _ 4 Country Party 10 # Country Progressive.. .. 1 Therefore Labour will have a majority of 17 over the non-Labour representatives. Mr. Scullin, replying at Melbourne to a great gathering of well-wishers who besieged his train, en route for Canberra, said his Government would do nothing to injure the nation. He appealed to the citizens as a whole for co-operation in putting Australia on its feet.
